Mode Modal Scale Musical Scale

The Locrian mode follows the interval pattern:

    • H–W–W–H–W–W–W**

Its most notable feature is the diminished 5th, which gives it a dissonant and unstable sound.

Example

  • B Locrian: B – C – D – E – F – G – A – B

Characteristics

  • Rare in traditional tonal music
  • Often used for experimental, avant-garde, or metal styles
