Diatonic Semitone

Interval Musical Interval Semitone Chromatic Semitone Diatonic Scale

A diatonic semitone is an interval of one half step (semitone) between **two different note names**, both of which belong to the diatonic scale.

Example

  • E to F
  • B to C

These notes are a semitone apart, and both are part of a major or minor scale.

Comparison

Unlike a Chromatic Semitone, which involves the same note letter altered (e.g., C to C♯), a diatonic semitone connects two distinct scale degrees.
