PARSIFAL: TRANSFORMATION SCENE Presented below is the first of a series of Wagner orchestral collections to be issued in the Columbia Masterworks Series, all numbers electrically recorded. The series commences with the charming scene, full of badinage and playful coquetry, in which at the commencement of Act 3 of Goetterdaemmerung the Rhine daughters, rising from the depths of the river, approach Siegfried who stands on the bank and cajole him with siren accents to yield to them the ring of the Rhine-gold.

Next is that tumultuous saga of the sea, the Flying Dutchman Overture a work of wild and stormy grandeur epitomising the opera and containing all of its leading motives. Following is the Venusberg music or Bacchanale from Tannhaeuser accompanying the dance of the bacchantes surrounding Venus and Tannhaeuser, increasing in its frenzied whirl constantly to the close of the scene.

By way of contrast is that exquisite lullaby, the Siegfried Idyll, arranged by Wagner from material existing in his completed works and first played as an aubade to his wife and infant son on Christmas morning 1870.

Completing the list is the Transformation Scene from Parsifal with its solemn bell motive.
