Pedro Maffia, one of the great innovators of the bandoneon, formed his own orchestra in 1926 after leaving Julio De Caro’s sextet. Though he was less active in touring than others, his ensemble was a breeding ground for top talent and highly respected for its refined style. His groups fluctuated between sextets and full orchestras, and he was active—off and on—until the mid-1960s.
