Formed in 1999 and debuting publicly in 2000, the Orquesta Típica de la Guardia Vieja was a project led by bandoneonist and teacher Joaquín Amenábar, aiming to recreate the expressive and technically refined style of tango orchestras from the 1930s and 1940s. Initially designed as a training ground for Amenábar’s students from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Buenos Aires, the orchestra evolved into a high-level ensemble performing in prominent venues in Buenos Aires and abroad. The group disbanded in 2007.
