Guillermo Valdez is the nephew of the renowned singer Jorge Valdez. His passion for tango and singing was born in his family cradle.
At the age of eight, a tenor cousin gave him his first vocalization lessons. He was later strongly influenced in his search for a personal style by Alfredo Belusi, Julio Sosa, Rubén Juárez, and Roberto Achával.
His first steps were guided by his uncles: Mercedes García, who was a pianist and also a bandoneon player, and Ángel Testa, who played the guitar. They accompanied him at family gatherings and parties.
Later, after the death of his uncle, he joined guitarist Luis Chela, a family friend who still accompanies him today with his trio.
In the year 2000, already a professional singer, he began his career sharing stages with Horacio Palma, Hugo Marcel, Roberto Chaleán, Jorge Guillermo, Néstor Rolán, and Reynaldo Martín, among others.
On June 24, 2004, he was part of the cast that paid tribute to Carlos Gardel at the Teatro Maipú.
His recordings are broadcast on the radio, and he performs on stages in Buenos Aires and in Las Piedras (Uruguay).
Since 2008, he has produced his own CDs—six so far: Arrabales, Esencia Tanguera, Alma de Buenos Aires, Estilo y Sentimiento, Mis Queridos Tangos, and Retrato Porteño.
His artistic godfather and co-producer on the aforementioned recordings is singer Horacio Palma, the remembered vocalist of the orquesta de Juan D’Arienzo.
Finally, it is worth noting that his acting training was with Norman Brisky.
