Phrygian

Mode Modal Scale Musical Scale Minor Scale


The Phrygian mode follows the interval pattern:

    • H–W–W–W–H–W–W**

It resembles the Natural Minor Scale but with a lowered 2nd degree.

Example

  • E Phrygian: E – F – G – A – B – C – D – E

Characteristics

  • Strongly associated with Spanish and Middle Eastern music
  • Frequently used in metal, flamenco, and folk traditions
